52 in 52 (Surprise!) Creszentia Hausmann
I wasn't even going to blog today. I've been working on my German side of my tree (Heigert) for foreve, and I'd actually put it down recently to work on the other branches. My cousin Ruth sent me a message last night saying she was making another trip to Germany, and will be spending three days in the town our side is from, Waldulm, and did I have any new tree information. Well, I hadn't since I hadn't been working on it, but I have a week off of work and thought it wouldn't hurt to time suck at least one day and spend it updating our Heigert side. So this morning I went to FamilySearch and typed in "Higert" and Waldulm, Germany. That's it. So I got 20 pages of records, all pertaining to my family and their town of origin.
I kept coming across records for children of Cäzilia Higert and Benedikt Hausmann. I don't have them in my tree, but those records kept coming up, so I started a new branch. This actually works out perfect for last week's 52 in 52 theme, "Surprise" which I did not do because I was doing the 'when I was born' blog instead. Everything is going to be a surprise, because I'm going to blog this as I find out the information. Hold on to your britches!
So I'm starting by entering in a new branch. If you don't know how to do this on ancestry it's super simple, pick any random person (I usually use myself) and add the new person is as a son or daughter, then go to the profile you just created and go to edit, relationships. Remove the parents and boom, you have a free floating person. So I did this with Creszentia because her marriage record happened to be the first one in my search bar. She is the daughter of Benedikt Hausmann and Cäzilia Higert, and she married Josef Rösch, son of Josef Rösch and Theresia Schmälzle. Right off the bat I know they're my family, as I'm a direct descendant of a Higert and Schmälzle union.
The second record is for Creszentia and Josef's son, Johannes, a death record.
Next is the birth of their daughter, Theresia.
Then is a marriage ban for their daughter Katharina, who marries Xaver Bruder. The record lists his parents as Loranz Bruder and Madgalena Köninger, so here is yet another point where it may intersect with my tree, as Gertrudis Köninger is the wife of a long distant cousin.
Next record is a marriage ban for Theresia Rösch, daughter of Creszentia and Josef, who marries Bernhard Wahl, the son of Severin Wahl and Katharina Oberle. Yet another name I recognize, Brigitta Oberle is my 4th great grandmother! All these people very well may be interconnected. (And now I'm super excited.) I have hints on several of these people popping up on ancestry, but I want to get through all the familysearch records before I go off and explore those.
Next record shows Crezsentia and Josef have a son, Lorenz who dies in 1843.
Next is the death of a daughter, Frederika in 1832 (these records do not show up in any sort of order....)
I have another son, Joseph, who dies in 1842, aged 9.
I have a death record for husband Josef, in 1867, age 67, listed as a "Bauer" (farmer) which gives me an estimated birth year of 1800.
The death of yet another child, a son named Andreas in 1840.
And another, Bernard in 1841.
Here's the Christening records: a son, Protas in 1829,son Johannes in 1827, one for Frederika in 1832, Maria Anna in 1826.
Birth records: Maria Anna in 1826, Protas in 1829, Joseph in 1833, Lorenz in 1843, Frederika in 1832, Andreas in 1840, Johannes in 1827, Bernard in 1841, Catharina in 1835.
A marriage record for Protas, to a Barbara Decker, daughter of Sebastian Decker and Barbara Fallert....I'm actually kind of disappointed here that I don't know any of those names.
This gives Creszentia and Josef a total of ten children, but only three marriage records, most passed before their third birthday.
Working back I type Creszentia's parents into the search bar.
This gives me a daughter, Theresia's birth and death record but not much else.
So now I'll look at Ancestry's hints, I like to get all my proven records down before I start looking at Ancestry, as you never really know what your going to get. Creszentia just has her marriage record and one ancestry tree that matches mine, but nothing else, with Josef being much the same. I do get a death record for her mother Theresia in 1814, giving an estimated birth date of 1760.
I then get a marriage record for a son. Andreas, to Barbara Hund, daughter of Joseph Hund and Agatha Graf. I do also have Hund's in my tree, quite a few of them actually. This branch could now potentially meet up with mine in three different places! Also a marriage for daughter Magdalena, to Andreas Straub, son of Andreas Straub and Mariana Haussman. Well isn't that interesting.
Another son married, Jacob, to Katharina Rosenacker, but she doesnt have any names I know.
A daughter, Gertud, married to Johann Adam Schmälzle....oh man it just keeps getting better. Except that it doesn't give parent's names for Johann...
Joseph dies in 1837, and gives his birth year as 1754. He was a farmer.
A new daughter, Marianne, marries Matthias Schnaiter, son of Christian and Christine Baisler.. I have two Baslers in my tree.
This branch is getting quite large, but still no real connection...
I will eventually follow down the childrens' children, but I'm hoping to connect the dots. So I'll Take a copy of my ancestry tree (the whole thing, unfortunately, there's no other way to do it) and plug it into my family tree maker, then search for duplicates. There is no other way that I know of to get this done.
Nothing.
Surprise.
I have a lot more work to do.
Found Severin Wahl and Katharina Oberle's marriage Ban. She's the daughter of Matthaus Oberle and Catharina Borsig...he's the son of Anton Wahl and Katharina Basler. More names...
