Barra Bloodline

12/1/14

I have spent quite a bit of time trying to research the Barra bloodline, and have recently gotten much further with the assistance of ItalianGenealogy.com.  I believe the easiest way for everyone to understand is to work backwards.  All this information has been verified and is accurate to the best of my knowledge. Here goes. :)

I am Valerie Heigert Simpson.

My Paternal grandparents were Frank Alan Heigert Sr (B. 02/07/1915, Staunton IL D. 10/02/1963, Carlinville IL) and Mary "Nona" Barra (10/08/1920 Benld IL D. 08/14/2008, Carlinville IL) who married on 07/07/1943 in Benld IL.

I will now follow the Barra line.

My great grandparents were Guiseppe Antonio "Joe" Barra (B. 08/28/1878 Brossasco, Italy D. 02/09/1925 Benld IL) and Angelina Nardin (02/07/1887 Asiago Italy D. 02/08/1963 Benld IL) who married in Dec 1915.

Joe and Angelina

Giuseppe Antonio Barra birth certificate

Angelina and children after the death of Joe.  L-R top row: Bruno, Alba, Joe, Rena. L-R bottom row: Mary, Angelina, Aurora.

Rena is Angelina's daughter by her first marriage in Italy to Valentino Paganini.  He is still very much a mystery to me, but I was told he died tragically and Angelina was left destitute in 1912, the same year Rena was born.  She emigrated to the US in 1915 because she despised the lack of support she had received.  The exact nature of his death I do not know, but I am aware of Joe's death, which is horribly unfortunate.  They lived on a farm outside of Benld IL, and electricity had just come to the area.  It was storming outside, and a bolt of lightning hit a power pole just outside the home.  Joe went out and it seems he threw a bucket of water on it, and was electrocuted.  Angelina was left again to raise her children herself.

My 2nd Great Grandparents were Guiseppe Barra (B. 10/12/1855 Brossasco Italy D. 10/06/1923 Brossasco Italy) and Margharita Giusiano (B. 1855 Sampeyre Italy D. 1927) they married 12/08/1877 in Brossasco, Italy.
